Bengaluru: At a time when COVID-19 dead are being denied the opportunity for decent cremation in most parts of the state, owing to stiff and vociferous resistance by people residing in the neighborhood of cremation grounds. Congress MP and KPCC President DK Shivakumar’s brother DK Suresh gave an elderly man who died of the virus a respectful final adieu.

Suresh’s aim to attend the funeral was to dispel the misinformation about the spread of the virus from the deceased that is leading to many funerals being stalled across the State. A 73-year-old man from Kanakapura died of COVID-19 and his last rites were performed on Sunday, July 19 in the presence of DK Suresh, who was seen along with the other health officer wearing personal protective kits.

Taking to Twitter Suresh wrote, “In order for people not to believe in false propaganda, I along with MLC Ravi, Town Councillor’s and other well-wishers of the family performed the final rites in the burial ground next to the Degula Mutt. All of us wore prescribed protection before performing the final rites. May the departed soul Rest In Peace.”

“Kanakapura resident Shri Narasiah Shetty aged 73 passed away after spending 3/4 days in the hospital. He was COVID positive. In this moment of grief my deepest condolences to the family,” he added.
