Complaints are being made that the works are damaging roads built spending crores of rupees.

The roadsides are dug for the pipelines from the Netravathi river at Sajipa Munnur to provide drinking water to the villages in the Mangaluru Assembly constituency.

Work is already underway at Sajipa, Chelur, Boliyar, Mudipu Kambalapadavu, Asigoli, Natekal, Deralkatte and Pandit House within Ullal tow council limits. In the wake of these works, many road construction works linking rural areas remain incomplete.

The road from Kambalapadavai to Mudipu junction and Mudipu hill has been developed as a model road in the district at a cost of about Rs 30 crore by Infosys Foundation.

Meanwhile, pipelines are being installed on the side of the road that connects Kambalapadu with Boliar, Kurnadu and Kairi Goli.

The works are being conducted at the right side of the road near Kairi Goli so the Department of Public Works is planning to divert the works to the left side near Infosys. This will result in damaging roads and footpaths there.

On the right side of the newly built two-lane road is the Department’s land which was previously identified for the pipeline works. But the guidelines were changed, and officers started the works from the left side of Infosys’s compound wall.

It is being stated that if work was done on the right side of the Department’s land, the road would not have been affected and the trees on the side of the road could be saved.

“Infosys Foundation had built a beautiful and model road from Kambalapadu to Mudipu. I thank them for this. It is not okay to ruin such a beautiful road. The matter has come to the attention of the district minister in-charge, local MP and me. The deputy commissioner will discuss the matter with the concerned departmental officers and take a decision” said UT Khader, MLA from Mangaluru Assembly constituency.
