In a rather unusual incident, cops found 10 tolas of gold valued at Rs 5 lakh in the possession of a rat in a gutter near Gokuldham Colony in Mumbai.

The gold belonged to a woman named Sundari who was on her way to the bank to pledge the gold and raise money to settle their daughter’s marriage loan.

Reportedly, Sundari had mistakenly given the bag with the valuables to a boy on the street thinking that it only had vadapav. She realized her mistake only after reaching the bank when she looked into the bag in her possession. She rushed back to the spot where the boy had been but could not find him. Later she went to the police.

The cops after examining the CCTV footage traced the boy and his mother. However, when they contacted them and enquired about the bag, the child’s mother said that they threw the vadapav as it was dry along with the bag in the garbage heap.

Upon checking the CCTV footage near that garbage dump, police found that the bag they were searching for was in the possession of a rat. The police chased the rat but it jumped into a nearby gutter. The police eventually found the bag with the gold ornaments intact.
