“I never thought that I would be defeated so badly. When I went to each of the villages during the election campaign, people were very affectionate. However, it was the people within the party who were responsible for my defeat,” Siddaramaiah said.

“The party is like a mother it should not be betrayed for trivial reasons. The party is important and not individuals.
she said the party is like a mother. The party should not be betrayed for trivial reasons. They don’t like it. The party is important and not individuals. Those who have problems with the party must leave it,” he added.

“There are other reasons for my defeat, I will not mention them now. JD(S) and the BJP made a deal to defeat me. The BJP had put up a weak candidate against me. They pitted somebody who lost a gram panchayat election against a chief minister. Think what sort of intrigue this must be?” he further said.

“And also, some amongst us did not want me to be the chief minister again. They did everything to make me lose,” he added.

Replying to one of the party workers there who, speaking before him, appealed him to once again take the party’s reins in Chamundeshwari, Siddaramaiah asked, “What should I do if I am backstabbed again?”
