Mysuru: Rare 'Chestnut-headed Bee-eater' sighted

Mysuru: The ‘Chestnut-headed Bee-eater,’ which mostly lives in open tropical forests, has made its first appearance in the district here.

This bird, seen at Chamundi Hills recently, is one of the rare species of the bee-eater family. It mainly eats bees, grasshoppers and other insects.

It is named so because of its dense chestnut-coloured head and neck and it eats bees.

In Mysuru the Large Blue-Green Bee-eater and the Small Green Bee-eater are mostly common.
