Night curfew: Dist administration imposes curbs on temple festivals, Yakshagana shows

Udupi: Taking a serious note on the Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s call to impose night curfew from December 23 night till January 2 across the state aimed at containing the new COVID-19 strain, the district administration has imposed restrictions on the conduct of annual festivals, Yakshagana performances.

District Commissioner directed that the conduct of the annual temple festival this time will be confined to the performance of key rituals and all the rituals should be done within 11 PM.

The district administration has also asked Yakshagana organizers to postpone or cut short the timing of their shows till January 2.

However, all activities will go on as usual between 6 am to 11 pm and there will be no restrictions on goods vehicles, movement of long-distance buses/trains/air services during the night curfew. Employees of industries and companies, which require 24/7 operations will also be allowed.

Earlier in the day on December 23, chief minister BS Yediyurappa had imposed the night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am effective today 23 December to 2 January 2021 but later after holding a discussion with the health minister Karnataka government revised the night curfew timings from 11 AM to 6 AM.
