Speaking to reporters, he said 250 to 300 people from Maharashtra are coming to the district in trains and vehicles every day. Amongst them, only those showing symptoms of illness are being tested. This is the reason why COVID-19 cases are being detected in the district every day.
In the old guidelines, all primary contacts were tested, however, in the new guidelines they don’t have to be tested. Most of the positive cases are those that have had primary contact. Of the total number of positive cases detected in the district approximately six cases would be due to primary contacts, he added.
Most of the primary contacts are those who had recently travelled to Bangaluru and returned and COVID Warriors such as police officials, physicians and bus crew. But there have been no cases that have spread in the community. A door-to-door survey is being conducted to prevent a community spread. Anybody showing symptoms such as fever, cold, cough and respiratory problems will be immediately tested. There is no need for the residents of the district to worry, Jagadeesha said.
