No domicile certificate needed for Medical students from Karnataka border area

Mumbai/Bengaluru: The mandatory domicile certificate requirement to get admission in postgraduate medical and dental courses for Students residing in Marathi-speaking border areas in Karnataka has been waived off by the Maharashtra government.

The sate medical education department has issued a Government Resolution (GR) to its effect. The GR states that students who fulfil all the conditions for applying for the post graduation courses in Maharashtra will not be required to produce the Domicile certificate.

Maharashtra and Karnataka are locked in a border dispute for decades.

As per the GR, Maharashtra has reserved few seats in the government medical and dental graduation courses for the Marathi-speaking students from 865 villages which fall in the Mahrashtra-Karnataka border.
