Mangaluru: It’s Valentine’s Day eve and while everyone is looking forward to celebrating it in public places, there is fear amongst the youth as many instances of raids, assaults, and murders are reported every year on this day.

Most of it perpetrated by religious or communal organizations.

Speaking to Udayavani about any precautionary measures taken on Valentine’s Day, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Sharan Pumpwell informed that, “We have no problem with celebrating love nor are we against it. The issue is the activities conducted in the name of love.”

“Celebrating love doesn’t have to be restricted to a certain day, and if you want to celebrate this day, visit temples, why celebrate at parties and dance bars.” Sharan asserted.

Throwing light on the drug and sex trafficking in the country, Sharan said, “Our generation is influenced by Western culture and that is the reason why we despise this day.”

He further confirmed that they haven’t planned any kind of party related activities on February 14.

Sharan ended with a message for the younger generation, “I ask you to not fall prey to monsters who may take advantage of your situation or involve yourself in illegal activities.”
