Omani Youth Losses $ 6600 on Assurance of Admission to Manipal University

Udupi: A citizen of Oman reportedly cheated by a travel agency on the assurance of admission to B.Com degree course at Manipal University in an incident reported on Wednesday in Manipal.

The victim, Oman native, Murthad Nadeem (21) paid $ 6, 600 to a travel agency in Oman on the assurance of admission to B.Com degree course at Manipal University here. Accordingly, the victim obtained visa for a period of one year from Indian consulate in Oman to continue his higher studies in India.

The youth came to Manipal on and showed his admission letter obtained from the travel agency to the officials at Manipal University on Wednesday to join B.Com degree course. The university officials informed the youth that the admission letter is not original and subsequently brought the incident to the notice of the police.

The police after an interrogation found that the travel agency cheated the youth on the assurance of admission to the course in India. The police thereafter seized passport from youth and asked him to leave India within a time span of three days.  

Speaking on the issue, Udupi District Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev M Patil said, the youth can register police complaint in Oman and Udupi police is ready to extend its support any investigation to be carried out by Omani police inconnection with fraud case.
