Once TV anchor, now forced to sell food on streets in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan

An image showing the stark reality of Taliban-ruled Afghanistan has gone viral on social media. The image shows a former TV Anchor forced to sell food on the streets.

The man, identified as former TV anchor Musa Mohammadi, is seen squatting on the streets with a platter of snacks in front of him, in stark contrast to his earlier appearance in a suit sitting in a TV studio.

The image was shared by Kabir Haqmal, a Kabul University lecturer in a Twitter post.

The caption read: “Journalists life in #Afghanistan under the #Taliban. Musa Mohammadi worked for years as anchor & reporter in different TV channels, now has no income to fed his family. & sells street food to earn some money. #Afghans suffer unprecedented poverty after the fall of republic.”

Kabir Haqmal’s Twitter feed has several such instances of common men and women, including journalists, suffering ever since the Afghan State fell into the Taliban’s hands.
