The accused is identified as Keerthiraj and was nabbed on Tuesday June 4 based on credible information. During the operation, the police seized Rs 7 lakh in cash, 5 mobile phones and a laptop from the accused.
Despite the City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil’s warning against indulging in cricket betting, this is the second cricket betting case in the city which the police have acted upon since the cricket world cup started.
Realizing the possibility of large scale betting racket during the IPL and world cup cricket matches, Mr Patil had instructed the police to take tough measures to contain gambling activity. Accordingly, police conducted operations and seized lakhs of rupees in connection to IPL tournament.
