One held guilty, others acquitted in Hoigebail youth murder case

Mangaluru: The first additional district and sessions court gave its verdict on Monday, December 24 with regard to the murder of Hoigebail youth in 2014. Ashu alias Ashrith one of the accused been held guilty and while five other accused have been acquitted.

Sanjay alias Varun was murdered in Hoigebail in the city on 22nd May 2014. After the investigation six were taken into the custody and now after four long years, the first additional district and sessions court has delivered its verdict to keep Ashrith under judicial custody.

Varun and Ashrith knew each other very well and small argument had led to their enmity. According to the charge sheet filed, on 22nd May 2014 Varun planned to celebrate his 19th birthday near Modern Rice Mill at Hoigebail along with his friends and when all of them were standing together, Ashrith came there in a motorbike. The duo quarrelled over some petty issue and it ended with Varun stabbing Ashrith to death.

The then Urwa police inspector, Ramachandra Maledevar had investigated the case and successfully arrested 6 persons within four days and filed charge sheet in the court. Judge Sharada B, conducted hearing in the case, examined 25 witnesses and delivered the judgement on Monday, December 24. Quantum of punishments are set to be held on 26th December, informed sources.
