Only 110 students register for NEET after missing out on May 5 exam due to train delay

Bengaluru: Only 110 candidates, of the reported 500 students who missed their National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) on May 5 due to a seven-hour delay in train, have registered for the re-exam scheduled to be held on May 20.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, responding to a request put forth by Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, gave its consent to conduct the re-exam for the benefit of those students who missed the May 5 exam for no fault of theirs.

Nearly 500 students from North Karnataka, who travelled in Hampi Express from Hubli to Mysuru via Koppal, Hospet and Bellary, reached Bengaluru at around 2.36 p.m instead of the scheduled arrival time of 7.00 a.m. The test had commenced at 2.00 p.m.

The last date to register for the second round was May 10. The students were asked to submit their application along with copies of their admission tickets and train tickets.

According to the sources around 30 candidates have registered without giving any specific reason and they will not be allowed to write the examination. “We cannot even get back to those candidates as many of them have sent applications from email addresses of cyber shops,” said a source.
