Chloe Zhao won the best director award, becoming the first woman of colour and only the second woman in the Oscars’ history to take home the trophy.
Soul won the best-animated feature award, also Pixar’s first film to feature a Black lead character. Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson, two-thirds of the hairstyling and makeup team behind “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” made history as the pair becomes the first black women to win for best makeup and hairstyling.
