Over 140 students of 2 govt schools fall ill after having mid-day meals

Bengaluru: As many as 140 students of two government-run schools fell sick after they consumed mid-day meals on Thursday, December 20.

It is gathered that a lizard allegedly fell into the sambar which was served in the mid-day meals at the Chikkamagii primary school in Bagalakote district, the students after consuming the meal started complaining of stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhoea, after which they were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals and are being treated for food poisoning.  

All of them are said to be out of danger and in view of the negligence the three cooks who attended to cooking in the school were dismissed from service, informed sources.

Speaking to presspersons Bagalakote district deputy director of public instruction, M R Kamakshi, informed that as the fear of food has sunk in the minds of the students and parents midday meal would not be provided to students till Monday, December 24.

In the second instance, about 30 students fell ill after consuming mid-day meals in Hagalur village of Ballari district. These students also complained about dizziness, stomach ache and vomiting. They were immediately rushed to a government hospital. However, the cause of the illness is unknown yet. Investigations in the case are underway.
