Over 400 cases of Black Fungus reported in K’taka every week

Bengaluru: Black Fungus cases are becoming increasingly common among COVID-19 positive patients and those who have recovered from the virus in Karnataka.

According to reports, more than 400 Black are being reported in the State per week.

7 new cases were reported from Bengaluru’s Victoria Hospital and 12 from Kolar.

In Hubballi, 12 were reported to be infected by the fungus. Four have been cured and the rest are undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital.

Additionally, four people in the Raichur district were also reported to be infected with the fungus.

In Bengaluru, a man who was diagnosed with the fungus on Thursday died on Saturday evening.

Minister of Health and Medical Education Dr Sudhakar has said preparations are being made to treat the fungus at Bengaluru’s Bowring Hospital and in other districts.

“A committee consisting of four experts is being constituted which will advise on what treatment should be provided. The Central government will supply the Amphotericin drug need for the treatment. We have already made a request for 20,000 doses. The treatment for Black Fungus, which should be given continuously for seven consecutive weeks, will cost about Rs 2-3 lakhs. We will be discussing with the chief minister to provide this treatment for free,” Sudhakar added.
