Close to 30 surfers participated in the event and displayed their talent with the waves. The girls division, open division and within 13-16 years events were conducted simultaneously. Opportunity for participation was provided for children from the age of 7 to 15 years.
Encouragement essential
Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil distributed the prizes to the victors which included a special sports bag, cash and trophy. Speaking after distributing the prizes the DC said, “Surfing is a special adventure spot and requires encouragement. Mangaluru has coasts which are conducive for surfing. All necessary encouragement will be provided on behalf of the district administration. The students undergoing this training must give importance to education too and come forward in it,” advised Mr Senthil.

Talented children will be identified and free training will be provided to them by Swami Foundation and it has been decided to provide opportunity for the conduction of national and international level competitions here.
