On February 17, the Karnataka government had issued a circular directing that the chapter should neither be taught nor used for evaluation for the current academic year. The Karnataka Textbook Society has ordered the removal of the part of the chapter

The delegation, led by board chairman HS Sachidananda Murthy, had sought the removal of portions of a chapter that mentioned that there was a food scarcity during the Vedic period (1500 BC to 600 BC) because homa and havana (fire rituals) as they were performed by offering large quantities of foodgrains, milk, ghee, and other materials.

However, education experts have raised objections to the move saying that the portion was included in the syllabus to facilitate critical thinking among children.
