By successfully giving birth in captivity, the environment in the zoo proves to be a productive one for breeding. Incidentally, Pilikula Biological Park is one among 14 major zoos in the country known for breeding in captivity and is also recognized for it by the Central Zoo authority.

The mother as well as its calves are healthy, informed Park director Jayaprakash Bhandary. Last year a pair of female hippos and a male hippo had been procured to the park from Bannerghatta National Park, inform park sources.

Mr Bhandary said that the four four Dholes brought to the park from Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh through the animal exchange programme and were under quarantine will be allowed to be seen by the visitors from Tuesday onwards.

The park will also be getting bison, white tiger and striped hyena through the animal exchange programme from other zoos this year, he added.
