The two sisters, taking their legends of their grandmother forward briefly performed the “Maithreem Bhajatha.” “Maithreem Bhajatha” is a benediction which was also rendered by MS Subbulakshmi herself in October 1966 at the United Nations.
A release from the Prime Minister’s Office said the benediction was composed in Sanskrit by Acharya Chandrasekharendra Saraswati of Kanchi and is an anthem for universal friendship and world peace.

The event on Tuesday was held as part of the year-long celebrations to mark Subbulakshmi’s birth centenary that kicked of last year on September 16, a senior IGNCA official said.
“It is a proud moment for all of us. The joy of seeing the exhibition on our great-grandmother’s life, who is still considered an icon, makes us feel proud and humbled,” said Aishwarya.
