PM to address Digital Saksharata Abhinandan Samaroh tomorrow

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the ‘Digital Saksharata Abhinanadan Samaroh’ at IIT Gandhinagar.

The event will highlight significance of e-literacy in addressing the issue of digital divide and promoting digital financial transactions to digitally empower the society, a statement said.

The government runs Pradhanmantri Grameen Digital Saksharata Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) aims to make six crore citizens digitally literate in rural India.

The programme also envisages equal opportunity to rural citizens, enabling them to actively participate in nation building and access livelihood through digital technology, devices and services, according to the release.

Minister for Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijaibhai Rupani will also be present at the event, among others.

So far, more than 55 lakh citizens have been registered on the PMGDISHA portal for digital literacy training, out of which more than 22 lakh citizens have been certified after successfully completing the assessment.

Around 7,000 training centre operators – Common Service Centre Village Level Entrepreneurs (CSC-VLEs) from various states will also participate in the event.

The Prime Minister will present awards to five VLEs and five digitally literate citizens at the function.
