New Delhi: Amid massive criticism over handling of the alleged gang rape and murder of a Dalit woman in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that his government is committed to womens’ safety and those who even think of harming their self-respect will face total destruction.

“Total destruction of those who even think of harming the self respect of women in UP is inevitable. They will get such a punishment that it will set an example. The UP government is committed to the safety and development of mothers and daughters. This is our resolve and promise,” Yogi tweeted in Hindi.

Sources said that the chief minister may take action against Hathras district magistrate and superintendent of police over the manner in which they handled the case.

Meanwhile media personnel and political delegations have been barred from entering the Hathras village until the SIT probe is completed. While media will be allowed to visit the family after the SIT probe is complete, the ban on political visits is likely to be continued.
