Pollution Board: Ganesha idols made of plaster of paris banned

Mangaluru: The Karnataka Pollution Control Board has banned the immersion of Ganesha idols in any kind of water bodies during the upcoming Gauri Ganesha festival.

In its notification in this concern it states, “During the Gauri Ganesha festival, the public should celebrate the festival with Ganesh idols made of mud and without colours. These should be immersed only in water bodies specified by the local authorities. During the immersion of the idols in mobile tanks and other water sources, the flowers, fruits, plantain, mango leaves or any other decoration that is put on the idols should be removed before immersion.”

“Permission is given to make idols from mud to a maximum height of five feet only. The immersion of idols made of plaster of paris that are painted is completely prohibited by the board,” states the notification.

Meanwhile, the DCs of DK and Udupi districts have sent out communication asking the citizens to cooperate in order to maintain cleanliness of the environment.
