Prabhudya’s mother, K.R. Soumya, who is a social activist, met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday, accompanied by a delegation of social workers. They requested that the gruesome murder case of her daughter be handed over to the CID. Responding to this plea, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed that the investigation be transferred to the CID.
Prabhudya, who lived with her mother and brother in Brindavan Layout, was a second-year BBA student at a private college in the city. On the evening of May 15, her lifeless body was found in the bathroom of their home with deep cuts on her neck and left hand. Initially, the Subramanyapura police registered the case as a suspicious death and started an investigation. Later, based on a complaint by her mother, Soumya, the case was reclassified as a murder investigation.
During the investigation, CCTV footage from the vicinity revealed an underage suspect. Upon interrogation, the minor confessed to killing Prabhudya over a dispute involving a 2,000-rupee loan. The suspect used a knife to inflict the fatal injuries. The police subsequently arrested the accused.
