'Praveshanotsavam': Schools reopen in Kerala after summer vacation; over 2.44 lakh students enrolled in Class 1

Over 2.44 lakh students enrolled in Class 1 across Kerala with the new academic year commencing on Monday, following a two-month summer vacation.

The state education department reported a total enrollment of 39,94,944 students, including 1,34,763 in pre-primary, 11,59,652 in lower primary, and 12,09,882 in high school. The new admissions in Class 1 alone stood at 2,44,646.

Teachers welcomed new students with decorated classrooms in various institutions statewide.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched the state-level admission festival, ‘Praveshanotsavam,’ at the Government Higher Secondary School at Elamakkara in Ernakulam district. In his address, he highlighted the hi-tech advancements in state-run school classrooms and encouraged students to leverage these contemporary learning facilities. He emphasized the importance of fostering a scientific temper among young students.

The inaugural event also featured dances and other cultural activities, attended by General Education Minister V Sivankutty, Industries Minister P Rajeeve, and other dignitaries.
