Bengaluru: The price of tomatoes in Bengaluru has seen a sharp increase to about Rs 60/kg, according to the city-based Horticultural Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society’s (HOPCOMS) daily price list.

Tomatoes were being sold for about Rs 20/kg a week ago. The price hike is due to a decrease in supply, with some wholesalers saying that it will ease after a month. The rains have worsened the situation.

HOPCOMS blamed the continuous rains over the past few weeks in Kolar, Chintamani, and Hoskote and added that the prices of other vegetables, including onions, are likely to rise in the coming days.
