Puttur: Murder accused hacked to death in broad daylight

‎Puttur‎‎:‎‎ A man, who was a main accused in the Hindu activist’s murder case, was brutally murdered near Perlampady here on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Charan Raj Rai (28), a resident of Aryapu. He was the main accused in the murder of Hindu Jagarana Vedike activist Karthik Merla three years ago.

According to sources, Charan was busy setting things up for the inauguration of his new medical shop that was scheduled for tomorrow at Perlampady when the attack took place. The unidentified assailants on a two-wheeler attacked him with swords and hacked him to death.

It may be recalled that Karthik Merla, who was the general secretary of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike in Puttur taluk, had been mercilessly killed on the night of September 3, 2019. The attack had taken place in front of the Puttur Rural police station in Sampya.

After an investigation, police had arrested ‎Charan Raj Rai, Kiran Rai, and Pritesh Shetty for their involvement in the murder.
