For months, the city had been struggling with a water crisis. Some parts, especially the tech area, were hit hard. The government took strict steps to ensure the water supply wasn’t disrupted.

More than half of Bengaluru’s borewells had dried up. April was the driest in 41 years.

Now, with heavy rain, officials are hopeful borewells will fill up, easing the crisis.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) said Thursday’s heavy rain uprooted 70 trees and broke branches from 171 more due to lightning and storms.

In JJR Nagar, residents protested due to waterlogging. They complained of sewage water from Salarpuria Sattva apartments flooding their homes during the rain. They felt authorities ignored their troubles.

The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru on Wednesday.
