SP launches district’s first women police patrol vehicle

Udupi: The district’s first women police patrol vehicle was launched by the distinct Superintendent of Police Nisha James on the occasion of Police Flag Day at Chandu Maidan, police parade ground, on Tuesday, April 2.

The police flag was ceremoniously released by retired sub-inspector Gopala Krishna, who was the chief guest and received the guard of honour at the parade.

Mr Krishan addressed the gathering and said, “Police service is greater service than anything else. I served in the police department due to the good deeds of my parents. Police personnel should be working within the limitations of law and order and must be able to work on the basis of human values. Armed forces will safeguard our border while the police maintain the internal security of the nation. Public cooperation is important to maintain peace and law and order,” he said and added “Though we retired, we are committed to join duty whenever required.”

Speaking on the occasion SP James said, “Let us do our duty with dedication in order to create a healthy society. For that public support is also important,” and informed that she had sent a proposal to the department head to sanction Rs 25 lakh for the police welfare fund. The SP also informed that a scholarship of Rs 17,500 has been distributed to the children of the staffs.

‘Rani Abbakka’ patrol vehicle

The SP spoke about the Rani Abbakka’ patrol vehicle and said, “The patrol will start functioning from today. There will be one women sub-inspector, two police constables (male and female) and a driver. At present, it will function during the day time under town station limits at bus stand, railway station and other places also. For now, there is only one vehicle due to shortage of vehicles. Based on the requirement, we will send proposal to the government. Public can complain to women police station or control room. Police will visit and file case on spot if necessary,” she explained.

Around Rs 3,13,714 from the welfare fund was distributed to four persons symbolically on the occasion.
