The research team from Griffith University and the Queensland Museum named the group of spiders Cryptoforis, which means “cryptic door”
Trapdoor spiders belong to the group Mygalomorphae, a group that construct deep silk-lined burrows that sometimes include a hinged door at the entrance.
It is said that the newly discovered species create well-hidden burrows which are also different to other trapdoor spiders in eastern Australia and that is why this new group of spiders remained undiscovered in the past
