Once it has landed, the sensor can be used to collect data, such as temperature or humidity, for almost three years. It is fixed on a moth using a magnetic pin surrounded by a thin coil of wire.

According to TechCrunch, To keep things lightweight and simple, the little sensor is held on with a tiny magnetic pin. A wireless signal can be sent that creates a current in a coil surrounding the pin, affecting its magnetic field and dropping the gadget.
