Residents of Bengaluru protest against illegal tree felling for hoardings

Bengaluru: The unapproved felling of trees to permit hoardings visibility has turned into an issue in urban Bengaluru. Numerous residents have announced such occurrences and the latest one that happened on May 9 was the issue that crosses over into intolerability. Huge number of residents protested to dissent the unlawful felling of trees along the Outer Ring Road in Bellandur on May 19.

The residents have expressed that there were more than four such occurrences where trees were illegally chopped down, the current one being on May 9 where 24 trees were felled overnight to permit greater visibility for the hoarding of a private realtor. 

Jayanta Tewari, an individual from the Sun City Residents’ Welfare Association, Iblur said that the trees that were unlawfully felled, were planted four years ago, huge numbers of them being around 12 feet high. 

An authority said that the hoarding was brought down after the residents recorded a complaint and a FIR was documented against the individual in charge putting it up but, residents said that the hoarding was back on May 18.

The protest was held by residents of Iblur, HSR Layout, Whitefield, Cox Town, Hebbal and J.P. Nagar.
