In a press release, DK deputy commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil informed that over 10,000 people are expected to participate in the meeting. Hence, as the district had witnessed a few untoward incidents during such meetings in the past, the sale of liquor in DK district has been banned on that day as a precautionary step. Therefore, all bar and restaurants shall remain shut from 6 am until midnight on Nov 25th, stated the press release.

VHP, in association with other Pro Hindutva groups has planned to organise a mass meeting at Nehru Maidan on Nov 25th with the aim to put pressure on the central government to construct Ram Mandir in Ayodhya at the earliest. People from all the taluks are expected to participate in large numbers at the meeting.

It is worth mentioning that in the year 2015, during the Hindu Samajotsava meeting in Puttur, some miscreants had pelted stones on vehicles as the people were returning from the meeting. In retaliation, another group pelted stones at a mosque thereby escalating the tension in the area. Hence, with the aim to prevent any such incidents from repeating themselves, the district administration has opted for the ban on liquor sale on Nov 25th.
