Sasthan Toll gate: Samiti calls for bandh on Dec 7

Udupi: The Rashtriya Heddari Jagriti Samiti has given a call for a day-long bandh on December 7 to press forth their demand of toll exemption for local vehicles at Sasthan toll plaza and speedy execution of pending works on the national highway.

The decision was taken at a meeting held on December 3 at Shivakripa Kalyana Mantap. Samiti president Pratap Shetty said that the bandh will be observed from 10 am till 4 pm on December 7. Residents of nearby villages – Mabukala, Airody, Pandeshwar, Yadabettu, Sasthan, Kody Kanyana, Gundmi, Saligrama, Chitrapadi, Kota Murukai, Kotathattu Kota, Manooru etc, and people’s representatives will participate in the protest.

“Exemption from toll charges are being sought for vehicles from places located within a radius of 20 km from the toll plaza,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shyam Sundar Nairy, Samiti’s legal adviser warned people against buying passes at the toll plaza since once bought they would need to acquire passes every time till 30 years. Moreover, pass holders would also need to bear the enhancement in charges if any during this period, he said.

Local leaders, Govind Poojary, Karkada Raju Poojary and Rev David Crasta were present.
