He was speaking after inaugurating the Kondadi Girijana Colony Applicants Association for the members of Girija colony in Bommarbettu village of Udupi taluk. The members of the community had received the RTC 6 years ago but have not yet been allotted sites. From the past 4 days Human rights Protection Foundation, Udupi along with several student volunteers of Manipal university worked for the cleaning and levelling of land. Thereafter, the Kondadi Girijana Colony Applicants Association was established.
Not Charity, but a constitutional right- Shashidhar Shetty
Addressing the volunteers of the foundation and members of the Koraga community, Shashidhar Shetty, the president of National Environmental Care Federation said “The facilities provided to these Harijana Girijana communities by the elected representatives are not charity but their constitutional right. Only when the people of the backward community are educated and when they take up high government positions there can be progress. Also there is a need to conserve the inherent skills and craftsmanship of the community” The objective is empowerment- Dr Shanbhag
The president of Human rights Protection Foundation, Udupi, DR. Ravindranath Shanbhag said, “protest against any injustice should be a non –violent one. It’s not important as to who is responsible for the non-implementation of the housing scheme. It is important to bring about the implementation of the scheme through peaceful means. The Human rights Protection Foundation, Udupi is ready to provide all kinds of support for such fights for justice. The objective of the foundation is to empower the backward and provide justice to the aggrieved.
