As per the rule, private vehicles aged above 20 years and commercial vehicles (yellow number plate) aged over 15 years have to be scrapped.
Of the 2.46 crore vehicles in Karnataka, about 39 lakh have to be scrapped to comply with the rule or pay green tax.
Though the officials believe it is necessary to reduce pollution, the rule, proposed by the Centre, has is facing much opposition.
