Sudesh Shetty, head of a private agency in charge of development of Malpe beach and St. Mary’s Island informed that some miscreants had damaged the granite bench about three days ago. The police have directed to install CCTV camera within 100m of the walkway which will be taken up in sometime.
The construction of a compound wall of the area where the tourist jetty and sea walkway is located at has reached 60% completion and is expected to be completed within a month. A gate will be installed at the entrance of the compound and a gate will also be installed at the entrance of the walkway on the western side and another gate will be installed at the east to prevent people from getting near the sea to take selfies, informed Mr.Shetty.
The walkway has been constructed on the breakwater at the entrance of the Malpe Fisheries Harbour. The walkway is 450 metres long and 2.4 metres wide and has a slip-proof floor below. There is a granite seat on either side of the walkway for people to sit and enjoy the beautiful sight the surrounds them. The entire Malpe beach can be seen from the walkway and to illuminate the entire walkway during the evening, as many as 30 iron cast lamp poles have been fixed.
