Bengaluru: ‘Ahaara Namma Hakku’ (Right to Food), an umbrella of organizations of Dalits, minorities, farmers, and nutrition experts have demanded the repeal of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020, passed in February 2021.

The forum argues that it is adversely affecting minority communities and has taken away the livelihood and essential nutrition source for SC, Adivasi, Muslim, and other minority communities.

It further said that during the lockdown period, schools were closed and the children were deprived of mid-day meals and rations and taking away a cheap nutritious food source (beef) is not scientific.

“Beef is a nutrient-dense food that can go a long way in addressing anaemia and vitamin A, B complex, zinc and protein deficiencies,” the organisation stated.

The organisation urged the government to take cognizance of the damage done to the livelihood, nutrition and mental health by this act.
