The special economic zone is situated close to the New Mangaluru port (NMPT). This zone has attracted national attention for the massive industries it houses and but before the massive heavy vehicle entre this zone, a corridor needs to be constructed. But, currently there exists only a mud road. Also the huge vehicles need to cross railway tracks to enter SEZ. For these reasons, a fly over has been constructed from a point close to Phalguni River to SEZ.
The construction of this fly over had begun just 2 years back at the cost of 40 crore rupees. The 700 meters long and 10.5 meters wide fly over’s construction is almost complete.

Very less possibility of entry of private vehicles
After the completion of the construction of the fly over, all the goods vehicles going towards SEZ will move through the fly over. It is being said that there is very less possibility of entry for private vehicles on this fly over. This fly over will cater to at least 100 goods vehicle daily. The fly over begins from in front of Total gas, goes all the way to the entrance of SEZ and joins with MRPL third phase road.
Railway begins works
The work to be done near the railway tracks requires prior permission from the railway department receiving which the work has to be carried as per its direction. The flyover work along Jokatte region has been completed by SEZ and the remaining construction to be done above the passing railway tracks has been handed over to the railway department.
The technical department of the railway department has already begun the construction work and the money to carry the work has been handed over by SEZ. The railways have to install a 45 meter and a 18 meter span.
Completion within three months
“The flyover has been constructed to provide a particular corridor for goods vehicle coming towards SEZ. Already 95% of the work has been completed and the remaining work is being carried by the railways. In the next three months, vehicles will travel on this flyover,” informed Prabhat, senior manager (CVL) SEZ.
