Shankaranarayana: Lady missing; presumed drowned

Siddapura: Shankaranarayana village Kulluanjegundu Kodlu Laxman Naika’s daughter Amita (1), had gone to wash clothes near Varahi river has gone missing and it is presumed that she might slipped, fallen into the river and drowned.

Incident synopsis

On Wednesday morning around 9:30 am, Amita informed her mother that she was going to the river to wash clothes. However, the lady failed to return back home even after the passage of quite some time. Hence the mother went in search of her daughter only to find the clothes and her daughter’s slipped lying on top of a rock on the river bank. Frightened, the woman immediately informed her husband Laxman Naika of the situation. Later, the police and the fire brigade were informed of the situation. It is said that the location where the lady had gone to was the clothes was a dangerous spot, with much depth and prone to whirlpool.

A search for the mortal remains of the girl was conducted by the police, fire personnel and the local divers, but no corpse was found. The search will be continued on Thursday.

Of the two daughters of Laxman Naik, Amita is the elder one while the younger one is a student. Amita had attempted her B.Com exam at Shankaranarayana Government First Grade College and was awaiting results. Laxman Naika is a mortar worker.

ZP member Rohit Kumar Shetty, Shankaranarayana GP president Ravi Kulal and others have visited the incident location. A case based on Laxman Naika’s complaint has been registered at Shankaranarayana police station.
