SP Gowda warns political parties

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Ravikanthe Gowda issued a strict warning to political parties after the attack on Sanjeeva Poojary, an aide of Congress minister Ramanath Rai came to light.

Sanjeeva Poojary, a Billawa leader was allegedly attacked by BJP workers at Melkar in Bantwal at late night on Thursday, May 11. The attackers allegedly barged into Poojary’s house and assaulted him, his wife and his employees. They also damaged Poojary’s car.

Addressing the media, SP Gowda said,” if any party or its supporters have any complaint, they must first report it to the local unit of the election commission or the police department.”

Gowda added that if political parties decide to take law into their hands, the police will not hesitate to take strict action against them.

“It will be an offence if the party workers take action on their own without informing the authorities,” he said.

Two separate complaints regarding the incident have been filed in the Bantwal town police station.

An FIR against BJP leader Shrikanth Shetty and 14 others on charges of illegal entry and assault has been registered.
