Special buses to be arranged for emergency workers, says DyCM Savadi

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Lakshman Savadi said that special bus services will be operated by the four road transport corporation of the State for health and emergency workers.

“The entire State is facing a very urgent public health situation. Therefore, the road transport corporations have been instructed to work hand in hand with the government’s efforts to deal with this sensitive situation,” the minister said.

Buses have already being provided by the road transport corporations to the health department, various police departments and other agencies involved in controlling the spread of COVID-19 in the State.

156 BMTC buses have already been provided for health and emergency services in Bengaluru.

“The North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation and the North Eastern Karnataka Road Transportation Corporations, have taken steps to provide buses for emergency services in their respective jurisdiction. If demands for more buses are made by the district administration, then more buses will be provided,” Savadi said.

“Since public transport has been prohibited during the lockdown period, the convenience of these special buses is limited to those who are dealing with health and emergency situations. The general passengers will not be able to avail facilities of these buses. I appeal to the public to understand the present sensitive situation in the State and cooperate,” Savadi added.

During the lockdown last year, road transport corporations’ buses were converted into mobile clinics and COVID-19 testing laboratories.
