Spiritually high! Temples in North Karnataka serve cannabis as Prasada to help achieve Enlightenment

But, did you know that Marijuana, a psychoactive drug is sacred in certain temples of North Karnataka and is served as prasada. The devotees of Sharana, Shaptha, Aruda, and Avadhuta traditions also consume ganja or marijuana in various forms.

As reported by News18, Mouneshwara temple at Tinthini in Yadgir district, has an annual fair in January where devotees gather and receive small packets of marijuana as prasada. The devotees then smoke the prasada after praying to Mouneshwara or Manappa.

It is also frequently distributed at some ashrams and temples in Yadgir and Raichur districts of Karnataka.

The Narcotic Drugs And Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), 1985 is the central law that deals with the possession of cannabis in India. It strictly prohibits the consumption, production, sale, or purchase of marijuana in the country.
