Several years ago, the union government had proposed that the SSLC, PUC exams be conducted under a single board. Excluding Karnataka and Rajasthan, this is in-effect in all the states. During the Siddaramiah government’s term, a grant had been set aside for this purpose. Now, there is no such proposal, he said.

Single board examination

The aim of the proposal is to conduct the 9, 10, 11 and 12std education together under a central curriculum model by calling it senior secondary education. If this model is implemented, the examinations will not be held under separate SSLC and PUC examination boards. Both the boards will be merged thereby creating a single board under which the 10th and 12th std exams will be held. Then the 8th std education which is presently under high school, will be pushed back into primary education.

There is only a proposal regarding the merger of SSLC and PUC examination board and no clear decision has yet been taken – S Suresh Kumar, Primary and High School Education Minister
