The recent spate of tremors felt had created an atmosphere of panic in the district. The locals reported hearing loud sounds radiating from the earth and forcing the people to run outside to safer areas.

In the past month alone the area has witnessed five separate earthquake-related incidents. However, Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) had advised people not to panic as the intensity observed is very low and not destructive.

In the past 7 days, Vijayapura was rocked by an earthquake three times. The biggest quake of magnitude 3.1 was reported from south of Bijapur city on October 1. The most recent was reported on October 2 with a magnitude of 2.5.
