State will not file review petition in Cauvery issue

Bengaluru: The all-party meeting hoisted by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here on Thursday to talk about the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision on the Cauvery issue — has unanimously ruled against recording a petition of testing the last decision of the court.  It was chosen to urge the Center to set up a dispute resolution forum in consultation with Karnataka and other riparian States in the Cauvery basin. 

Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil told presspersons after the meeting that the two decisions were taken in view of proposals by a legal group, drove by Fali S. Nariman. The Supreme Court had articulated its decision on February 16, expanding Karnataka’s share of the Cauvery water from 270 tmcft to 284.75 tmcft. 

Of the extra 14.75 tmcft, the peak court had granted 4.75 tmcft for the drinking water necessities of Bengaluru, and the remaining for taking care of the State’s water system needs. 

Association Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar said that the Center would set up the gathering after counsels with the every single riparian State in the Cauvery basin. Patil said the worries of MPs and Ministers from Karnataka had been heard.
