Tata Intra, the much-awaited all-new SCV has been launched as India’s first compact truck. Tata Motors offers Intra with two variants viz., V10 and V20 at a price of Rs.5.35 lakhs and Rs.5.85 lakhs (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. Tata will position the new Intra above its Tata Ace mini truck series.
Tata Intra is built on a new modular platform with a lot of class-leading and segment-first features. It gets a large chrome front grille, clear glass headlamps with halogen lights, integrated turn indicators, a bold and busy-looking bumper with a wide central air dam, provision for fog lamps installation, larger manually operable ORVMs and dual wipers along with the stylish subtle character lines.
On the interior, the Intra features a dashboard mounted gear lever that offers a comfortable long driving. The highlight features include a smart cabin space, improved ergonomics and low NVH levels that provide improved productivity. Other goodies include the mobile charging point, electronic instrument cluster, large windscreen, lockable glove box, storage on dashboard and door trims, headrest, pre-fitted music system with Radio, AUX-IN and USB connectivity.
Mechanically, the Tata Intra V20 gets a brand new 1.4-litre Direct Injection (DI) diesel engine that delivers power and torque outputs of 69bhp @ 4000rpm and 140Nm @ 1800-3000rpm respectively. The engine powering the Intra V10 is a 0.8-litre two-cylinder motor churning out 39 bhp power at 3750rpm and 90Nm of torque at 1750-2500rpm. The former engine comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox while the later with a 4-speed manual gearbox.
