Three arrested for robbing mobiles from lorry drivers

Mangaluru: A gang, which was involved in robbing lorry drivers off of their cellphones by brandishing knives at Surathkal and Panambur areas and also accused of robbing batteries from generators stopped on the roadside along NH 66 at Kulai have been arrested by Mangaluru North Sub-Division Rowdy Squad along with Panambur police.

The arrested are identified as Abdul Ameer, Abdul Bilala and Tanvir, all residents of Mangaluru.

Recently the accused had attacked and robbed Vijayapura resident Shanshuddin Ashamfir Mujavar (57), who was sleeping in his lorry parked in front of Nandeshwara Temple near Panambur after Shamshuddin refused to give his mobile even after the gang brandished a knife attempting to scare and as their tactic had failed, the accused slashed the knife on the forehead of Shamshuddin and made off with his cellphone.

A case in this connection was registered with Surathkal police who conducted investigation and were successful in arresting the accused. The police have seized a mobile, 2 two wheelers, 1 goods tempo and 6 batteries.
