Three medicos killed in a tragic road accident

Bengaluru: In a horrific accident, three MBBS students were killed after the car in which they were travelling rammed into a truck laden with iron rods which was parked on the road side at Devanahalli.

The deceased have been identified as Prajwal, Vishal and Bhushan. They were second year MBBS students at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and lived in the college hostel.

Another medical student who was driving the car sustained severe injuries. 

According to the police, the accident took place at around 2am on Nelamangala highway and the truck was carrying construction materials. 

“The police have registered a case of negligence under Section 337 and 338 of IPC against the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) as there were no street lights. If the lights were functioning, the tragedy could have been averted,” said a senior police officer.

The injured final-year student Krishna Raj was driving his juniors to his village in Venkatagiri Kote in Devanahalli taluk when the accident took place, said the police. 

Police suspect that he did not see the truck as no blinking lights were switched on. The driver of the truck is absconding. 

A case has been registered against both Krishna Raj and the truck driver as well for criminal negligence leading to the death of three people.
